We provide thorough pre-surgical psychological evaluations tailored for bariatric surgery. Our experienced team understands the complexities involved with bariatric surgery and ensures that each assessment is comprehensive and informative. We aim to help our patients make informed decisions regarding their health and surgical options. Our bariatric psychologists are ASMBS certified and have been conducting presurgical psychological evaluations and designing and directing behavioral weight management programs at MBSAQIP Centers of Excellence for over 20 years. Our evaluations follow all established guidelines and provide patient-centered feedback, including for non-surgical and medically supervised weight loss programs.
All of the therapists at Bariatric Psychology Consultants hold advanced degrees in psychology or a related field and are licensed to practice in the state in which they operate. They also have extensive training and experience in various forms of therapy, as well as specialized training in behavioral weight management. Our therapists provide ongoing pre- and post-surgical counseling to patients to address disordered eating, stress management, nicotine and alcohol cessation, support for surgery, and more. Additionally, due to their intricate knowledge of the bariatric surgery process, our therapists can assist patients in navigating the surgical process.
Bariatric surgery can cause significant lifestyle changes, hormonal shifts, and altered relationships with food which can trigger or exacerbate conditions like depression, anxiety, or disordered eating. Regular evaluations at different increments post-op allow our team to proactively identify these issues. Early detection allows for timely intervention through therapy, support groups, or medication, ensuring patient well-being and maximizing the long-term success of the surgery.
Bariatric support groups play a crucial role in the journey toward successful weight loss and healthier living. These groups offer a safe space for individuals to share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs with others who understand the unique struggles that come with bariatric surgery. Participants benefit from emotional support, practical advice, and motivation from peers who are on a similar path. Additionally, support groups provide access to valuable resources, such as nutrition tips and exercise guidance, helping members stay accountable and focused on their goals. By fostering a sense of community, bariatric support groups empower individuals to embrace their new lifestyle and achieve lasting success.
